The first step is to look at what your teens want to do, and have a deep discussion of exactly which college they want to go. When considering what colleges to apply to, it’s not all your choice; and it’s not all theirs. Agreeing on a college is very important, because your teens needs to feel the freedom of being able to choose their college, and you need the security of knowing where they’re going is safe, secure, and the best education that they can get. If your teenage children approach you with not going to college, it can come as a shock to you as a parent; especially if you expected the typical growth—college, job, family; in that order. Sometimes, it just doesn’t work out that way.
